𝙔𝙤𝙪 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙘𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙩 𝙩𝙤 𝙗𝙚𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙚 𝙖 𝙎𝙤𝙛𝙩𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙀𝙣𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙚𝙧. 𝙄’𝙡𝙡 𝙚𝙭𝙥𝙡𝙖𝙞𝙣.

I've been working towards landing my first SWE role for over 4 years now.

During that time, I’ve done two things:

→ Trying to figure everything out alone 👨🏾‍💻

→ Learning with a mentor who helped me focus on what actually mattered📚

That contrast changed everything.

🍦𝙈𝙚𝙚𝙩 𝘽𝙚𝙣 & 𝙅𝙚𝙧𝙧𝙮.

They both want to become Software Engineers.

But they take 𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮 𝙙𝙞𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙥𝙖𝙩𝙝𝙨.

𝘽𝙚𝙣 𝙙𝙚𝙘𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙣 𝙖𝙡𝙤𝙣𝙚:

𝙉𝙤 𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙤𝙧 ❌

→ He spends months getting things wrong, frustrated, and doubting himself.

→ His journey takes 2–5𝙭 𝙡𝙤𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙧 than it needs to.

𝙎𝙥𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙨 𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙙𝙚𝙘𝙞𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙩𝙤 𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙣 ⏰

→ He's overwhelmed by choices.

→ Is it React? Is it Java? Should he build projects? Which ones?

𝙎𝙩𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙨 𝙘𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙩𝙡𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙟𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙨, 𝙗𝙪𝙩 𝙣𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙛𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙨𝙝𝙚𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙮 🚧

→ Because there’s no clear strategy or accountability.

𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙡𝙮 𝙨𝙚𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙙-𝙜𝙪𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙚𝙨 𝙞𝙛 𝙝𝙚’𝙨 “𝙙𝙤𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙞𝙩 𝙧𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩” 🤷

→ “Is this even the right way to do it?”

→ “Is this portfolio project enough?”

Ben’s not lazy, he’s just stuck in a loop. 🔄

𝙅𝙚𝙧𝙧𝙮 𝙙𝙚𝙘𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙛𝙞𝙣𝙙 𝙖 𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙤𝙧:

𝙃𝙚 𝙂𝙚𝙩𝙨 𝙁𝙚𝙚𝙙𝙗𝙖𝙘𝙠 𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙡𝙮. ✅

→ He knows what he knows and what he needs to work on next.

𝙁𝙤𝙘𝙪𝙨𝙚𝙨 𝙤𝙣 𝙝𝙞𝙜𝙝 𝙡𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙜𝙚 𝙨𝙠𝙞𝙡𝙡𝙨. ⚙️

→ No more learning random tools. He learns what actually matters for landing interviews.

𝙐𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙗𝙪𝙞𝙡𝙙𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙍𝙄𝙂𝙃𝙏 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙟𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙨. 🗂️

→ Not just another to-do list app.

→ Projects that show employers he’s ready and stand out.

𝙃𝙖𝙨 𝙎𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙏𝙤 𝙃𝙚𝙡𝙥 𝙃𝙞𝙢 𝙂𝙧𝙤𝙬. 🌟

→ A mentor to guide him, encourage him, and help him stay on track.

Jerry isn’t working harder, he’s working smarter.

𝙄 𝙢𝙖𝙙𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙢𝙤𝙨𝙩 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙜𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙖𝙨 𝙖 𝙎𝙤𝙛𝙩𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙀𝙣𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙚𝙧 𝙙𝙪𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙢𝙮 𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙣𝙨𝙝𝙞𝙥.

When I was assigned a 𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙤𝙧.

𝙒𝙝𝙮?

Because I had a mentor.

→ When I was stuck, I had someone to guide my next steps.
→ When I needed career advice, I got it from someone who’d been there.

Now I’m doing the same for others.
